pointing to the obvious

I have not done a memorial vigil in the park for several weeks. Too busy with other things, is my excuse. Yet, I think about it daily - how our invasion of Iraq has led to the deaths of thousands of innocent people. Making a public "show" of my beliefs and sorrow is difficult for me. I feel like I am simply pointing to the obvious - what every person who is even slightly aware of what is going on already knows - that people are dying in Iraq and we, the citizens of the U.S. are responsible for those deaths. It is ludicrous to me that such an obvious truth is overlooked, ignored, even rejected by the collective consciousness. We all know it is the truth. But it is so against our stated ethics and morals (Do not kill) that we must squeeze it out of our brains. I cannot squeeze it out. And it feels wrong to me to not say it. Yet the taboo is so strong that I hide this statement in a blog and intermittent trips to sit in the park.
